  Log and Timberframe Components

Log and Timber Frame construction is the mainstay of Door County Log Homes. In the three Wisconsin counties of Door, Kewaunee and Brown we include with our log or timberframe components a complete turn-key construction service via our construction management division. If your planning to build outside of those three counties we can provide any of the component packages listed below AND a full log set crew or a single log set manager to work with your local crew. We will ship our log/timberframe components and will provide set-crew services almost anywhere in the U.S.

Log Vs Log Siding

Full logs are not for everyone. Normally budget will be the key factor however energy efficiency, rusticity, maintenance and other factors will affect one's decision on log Vs log siding. Full log homes have no man- made core. The log you touch from the outside is the same log you touch from the inside with nothing but solid wood between the two. Log siding on the other hand will be like a "sandwich" with one length-cut log on the outside, a core of conventional framing materials (studs, insulation, house wrap...) and then either another layer of length cut logs on the inside or more conventional materials on the inside such as plaster, wood paneling, .Typically the cost of a log sided home is less than the cost of full log. The gap between the two can narrow as the full log size is reduced in diameter and/or the log siding size is increased.

The "R" value of solid wood (full log) can not match the identical thickness of man made materials such as fiberglass insulation or foam products. However, there is a concept referred to as "Thermal Density" when talking about full log in that the log may take longer to warm up when you crank up the heat but it also takes much longer to cool down once the thermostat is turned down. Your decision will be one of personal taste and budget. You will know your direction once you view the many photographs on the attached links.
